DECISION 2008 - TEXAS PRIMARY ELECTION
Runoff election is April 8

A run-off election will be held April 8.

Only one local race is contested. In the bid for Cherokee County Commissioners, Pct. 3, Moody Glass Jr., the incumbent, will face F.E. Hassell on the Democratic ticket.

The final day to register to vote in the April 8 election is March 10.

Early voting is scheduled for March 31-April 4. Early voting locations include:

• RUSK: Cherokee County Courthouse, County Clerk's office, (903) 683-2350

• JACKSONVILLE: Senior Citizens Center, 300 S. Bolton, (903) 586-1696

• ALTO: A. Frank Smith Methodist Church, 103 Cooper St., (936) 858-4347

Cost of holding a run-off election will cost each political party approximately $3,775.

Most of the cost of primary elections is born by the political parties.

However the county pays for early voting which will cost taxpayers $2,520.

An election night party caucus held at 7:15 p.m. at Box 15 in Jacksonville overwhelmed Chairman John Ament, who initially did not have enough registration forms for the 63 persons who crowded into Tyler Street Baptist Church. Mr. Ament was successful in borrowing additional forms, and he told the group that two years ago, only four or five persons participated. Box 15, which is the second largest in Cherokee County, will send 15 delegates to the county convention on March 29. Nine will represent Obama, six will represent Clinton.
