WELLS ISD
Principal will be reassigned as curriculum specialist

Mike Alberts, Wells High School principal, will return to the classroom for the 2008-09 school year.

Mr. Alberts was named a newly created district curriculum specialist two years ago but was unable to fill the new position after a vacancy occurred in the principal's position and he stepped into that role.

He has now asked the board to reassign him to the new curriculum specialist position.

"Now Wells ISD will aggressively pursue offering courses concurrently for high school and college students via distance education" said Dale Morton, superintendent. "This important initiative will reduce staffing costs, reduce the number of teacher preparations, provide instruction and allow students to begin college course work while in high school," he added.

Mr. Morton said, "This role is not entirely new to Mr. Alberts.

Prior to accepting the Wells principal position, he taught classes both at Wells and at Jacksonville College. The significant difference in the new initiative will be the number of students, variety of courses and the number of institutional partners.
