11 plea in Cherokee district court

Gordon Mathis, 43, of Rusk pled guilty in January of six counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and was sentenced to 40 years in Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Mr. Mathis was sentenced to 97 months in federal prison in November for possessing material involving the sexual exploitation of Minors in the eastern district of Texas. Officers seized computers and compact disc from Mr. Mathis' residence.

He is currently serving the federal prison sentence, which will run concurrently with the state sentence. Following the completion of the 97 months he will be transferred to Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Rachel Patton Rogers was the lead prosecutor for the January cases. Elmer Beckworth is district attorney.

In addition to Mr. Mathis, others sentenced in January included:

•Alvin Clayton, 24, of Jacksonville, charged with evading arrest with a vehicle, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, probated to five straight years.

•Carlos Jones, 26, of Jacksonville, charged with aggravated robbery, was sentenced to 20 years in Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

•Calvin Brown, 34, of Houston, charged with failure to appear was sentenced to four years deferred probation.

•Thelma Washington, 71, of Wells, charged with possession of controlled substance was sentenced to two years in prison, probated to five straight years.

•Mark Mueller, 48, of Jacksonville, charged with driving while intoxicated, third or more times was sentenced to 10 years probated to 10 straight years.

•Antonio Nava, 24, of Jacksonville, charged with driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 was sentenced to two years in prison, probated to four straight years probation.

•Kevin Herman, 42, of Wells, charged with failure to appear, was sentenced to four years deferred probation.

•Isidro Galan, 27, of Jacksonville, charged with driving while intoxicated, third or more times, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, probated to five straight years.

•Charles Dobson, 42, of Diboll, was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child under 15, was sentenced to four years deferred probation.

Charllotta Williams, 40, of Rusk, charged with forgery with a financial instrument, was sentenced to six months in state jail.
