New dollar coin draws criticism
ROSE MARY JONES

I wrote a letter back in July concerning a new dollar coin that our government made which our motto "In God We Trust" was printed on the rim of the coin.

I am excited to write that several weeks ago it was reported that all coins made in 2009 will have "In God We Trust" on the face of the coins. That made my day! This tells me that America is still awake, and we are safeguarding our heritage and high values .... that is what keeps America strong.

However with this bit of good news comes some that is not, and I am annoyed that some people keep trying to change our values and traditions .... even to the extreme of taking it to court. For instance on the Fox news during the holidays the atheist who tried to take the words "Under God" out of The Pledge of Allegiance" is going to try and have our motto "In God We Trust" removed from our currency. This man will not go away .... I wonder who is behind him and why the courts let him waste their time.

Not only are our coins under attack but each year our Christmas traditions are also. During the holidays Fox news reported that someone wanted to change our red and green Christmas colors. Also some school wanted to take their class to see the Christmas movie "Miracle on 34th Street" and someone objected to that because it had Santa Claus in it. There seems to be no end to this kind of nonsense.

We live in a free country but freedom has its rules, principles and guidelines. Freedom does not mean that if someone doesn't like something they can start changing things .... that is not freedom .... that is called me-ism .... maybe these people need to move to another country.

I feel that if you live in America you accept our customs and way of life .... when we start changing our heritage and traditions to please other people we will lose the integrity and spirit of America.
