Rusk Lady Eagles snap 2-year losing streak
Rusk had threatened several district opponents already this season, playing close games against Center and Hudson and leading Carthage throughout much of the first half, but Murphy's law always seemed to strike the Lady Eagles hardest in the fourth quarter. The Central game was different, as Jasmine Harris fueled the Lady Eagle offense with a three-pointer in the third quarter and Cambry Blakemore added another in the fourth. Harris led scoring with 28 points, followed by Le'Asha O'Neal (11), Blakemore (10), Charnell Franklin (2) and Brittney Session (1).
Rusk is now 7-16 on the season, 1-8 in district. The Lady Eagles' JV fell to Hudson 53-26. Scorers were: Kiera Skinner (10), Jelissa Session (8), Kashera Muhammad (4), Winona McGowan (2) and Cami Curtis (2). The Rusk Eagles lost to the Central Bulldogs 50-46 Jan. 15. "We played well, we just couldn't get over the hump," said Head Coach Tracy Kincade. Demarcus Skinner led the effort with 21 points, three rebounds and two steals. Quinn Anthony controlled the lane with five points and 10 rebounds. Following the leaders were: J.J. Session (8), Chance Cleaver (6), Bobby McDuff (6), Horrace Lewis (2). The Eagles fell to Hudson 75-50 Friday. Scorers were: Skinner (16), Session (8), Anthony (7), John David Beard (6), Cleaver (5), Michael Katon (3), Terrance Turner (2), Lewis (2) and Taj Cleaver (1). Rusk is now 8-13, 0-7 in district play. The Eagle JV lost to Hudson 48-46 Friday. Scorers were: Cornelius Lewis (25), Nicky D. Cleveland (7), Kalen Skinner (7), Matthew Pyle (3), DelShawn Session (2) and Chase Anderson (2). The Eagle JV is now 5-2 in district. Rusk travels to Huntington Friday, with JV games beginning at 5 p.m. |
