All the hard work, sweat and tears finally paid off for the Rusk Lady Eagles Jan. 15 as they defeated the Central Lady Bulldogs 52-40. The win marked the Lady Eagles' first district victory in almost three years and the seventh victory overall for this season.

Rusk had threatened several district opponents already this season, playing close games against Center and Hudson and leading Carthage throughout much of the first half, but Murphy's law always seemed to strike the Lady Eagles hardest in the fourth quarter.

The Central game was different, as Jasmine Harris fueled the Lady Eagle offense with a three-pointer in the third quarter and Cambry Blakemore added another in the fourth. Harris led scoring with 28 points, followed by Le'Asha O'Neal (11), Blakemore (10), Charnell Franklin (2) and Brittney Session (1).
