Fruit tree workshop planned If the fresh flavor of fruit picked in your own back yard is appealing, plan to learn more at a Cherokee County Fruit Tree Care Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 26. The workshop will be held at the Courtyard Garden at Joe Smith Plant Farm, U.S. Highway 79 northeast of Jacksonville. Joe Daniel, horticulturist with AgriLife Extension, Texas A& M System will lead the workshop. At the workshop, the production of blueberries, blackberries, figs, grapes, pomegranates, persimmons, pears, peaches, apples, plums and pecans will be discussed. Selection of adapted varieties, planting, training, fertilization and pest management of each of the fruits and nuts will be outlined. Texas Certified Master Gardeners will also be on hand to share their experiences and expertise. Extension programs serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin. |
