Wells ISD seeks nominations for advisory group
BY DALE MORTON

Recently, Wells ISD Board of Education renewed its policies and procedures for selection of the Wells ISD Advisory Committee, a site based decision making committee. The board has invited persons from the community to make nominations for this committee. Also, the board asks for nominations for potential service in other specific focus areas. All of the committees are advisory in nature.

The purpose of the District Advisory Committee is to advise the administration and board in establishing and reviewing educational goals, objectives, and major instructional programs and initiatives. Aim of this committee is to achieve school improvement.

Membership in the WISD Advisory Committee is governed by state law. Therefore, the local school district is charged with receiving nominations for public members to the committee and then with making appointments to fill vacancies on the committee. The remainder of the committee members are either established by law or elected within school staff.

Nominations are sought for members to join the existing committee members. The committee advises the administration with regards to nutrition, physical education and wellness curriculum and activities. The committee meets two or three times per year.

The Board of Education is interested in the development of a long-term facilities improvement plan. The board seeks input from the community in order to provide good facilities. The board is currently planning for the structure of this committee.

The board asks those in the community to feel free to serve on the committee or to nominate someone else for current vacancies.

Nomination forms are available at the superintendent's office. Nominations should be made on the district form and returned to the superintendent's office by Feb. 1. For additional information, contact the superintendent's office at (936)867-4466.

Dale Morton is superintendent of schools at Wells ISD.
