NEW Tyler Music Coterie's Hambrick/ Mueller "Young Musician of the Year" scholarship award auditions are scheduled for Saturday, March 8 at the Marvin United Methodist Church chapel in Tyler. The winner will receive $1,200 which is awarded for exemplary musical skills, Allene Parish, Coterie Scholarship Committee chairman said. The March 8 date is a new date and those applying for the scholarship are asked to remember this change. In addition the winner will be eligible for an additional $500 per semester from the University of Texas at Tyler or $2,000 per year from Tyler Junior College. Both of these scholarships will be renewable if their requirements are met each semester. Applications are due Feb. 15. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who will enter college as a music major and must be a Tyler resident or live within an approximate 65-mile radius of the city. Auditions held before three judges will be 15-20 minutes. The recipient must agree to be presented in recital at the morning Coterie meeting on May 8 in the Marvin United Methodist Church chapel.
