Mrs. Mayes honored on birthday

The Bea Mayes family celebrated her 100th birthday with a reception at First Baptist Church in Rusk. Bea Mayes celebrated her 100th birthday with a reception Sunday, Dec. 30, at First Baptist Church in Rusk, where she had been a member for 71 years. During those years she taught second grade Sunday school for more than 60 of those years.

Mrs. Mayes was born Jan. 9, 1908, and moved to Rusk in 1936 to join her husband, M.J. Mayes in the operation of Rusk Dry Goods. She has one daughter, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren Approximately 100 attended the reception.
