Funeral for Thelma Higgs Ray, 96, of Stone Mountain, Ga., formerly of Beaumont, was at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Wallace- Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Caldwell officiatingBurial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Ray was born Nov. 11, 1911. She died Jan. 11. She was noted for her tall tales, family history and original ghost stories. Preceding her in death were her parents, Ira H. and Siddie Elizabeth Higgs; her husband, J.Carrol Ray Sr.; her son, John Carroll Ray Jr. ; and her nine siblings, Ira Higgs, Daisy Bodin, Homer Higgs, Jewel Higgs, Blanche Murray, Carrie Bryan, Guy Mitchell, Mary Waters and Hazel Heard.

Survivors are her daughter and long-time caregiver, Dorothy Shahan of Stone Mountan; grandchildren,Sharon Shahan and Joseph Henslee of Atlanta, Ga., Lisa and David Whitlaw of Norcross, Ga., John and Bonnie Ray of Hartselle, Ala. and Mary Lou Miner of Rosemont, Ore.; five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
