Awards ceremony tops 15-item agenda for commissioners court

Linda l Beard, Cherokee County tax assessor collector, was honored Monday afternoon for her 45 years of service to the county.
Cherokee County Commissioners met Monday morning to consider a 15-item agenda, which concluded with a service award ceremony at 1:30 p.m.

Sheriff James Campbell presented a racial profile report for traffic stops. He said county officers stopped 600 cars. Of those 408 were driven by whites; 129 by Blacks; 61 by Hispanics; and two by persons of other races. All county patrol cars are equipped with video cameras.

An interlocal agreement between the county and City of Wells was approved to allow the county health department to do food service inspections.

The county treasurer was appointed as the authorized representative of TexPool for financial services.

Commissioners accepted a Task Force on Indigent Defense Grant of $27,692 for the fiscal year 2008.

The county will ask for bids to sell the generator located at the old Jacksonville police station building, now owned by the county.

County employees l with five or more years of service received awards Monday afternoon during ceremonies in the county courtroom. A total of 82 certificates and pins were presented to those with five to 45 years service.
Commissioners approved a license and weight month report; report of Lynn Kelley, Pct. 1 monthly report; Eddie Lee, Pct. 3 reports for November and December; and Joe Self, Pct. 4 monthly report. Also commissioners accepted subdivision reports for plat purposes.

An executive session was conducted to discuss personnel matters.

Service awards were presented to county employees for five through 45 years in increments of five years. Plans are to present the service awards every six months.

Attending the meeting Monday morning were County Judge Chris Davis; Commissioners Mary Gregg, Kevin Pierce, Moody Glass Jr. and Byron Underwood; County Clerk Laverne Lusk; and County Auditor L.H. Crockett.

Commissioner Glass was unable to attend the Monday afternoon session.
