Lady Jackets drop district

opener

The Alto Lady Jackets basketball team fell to the Slocum Lady Mustangs 56-27 Friday. Amber Morrison led the scoring for the Lady Jackets with 13 points, followed by Kaylan Thacker (7) Teoshue Badgett (6), Katina Sturns (3) and LaQuendal Tyler (1). The loss drops Alto's record to 6-10, 0-1 in district.

Over the New Year's holiday weekend, Alto competed in the Grapeland Sandieland Classic tournament, winning the first game against Grapeland 52-42. Alto then fell to Buffalo 61-40 before losing to Leon 73-41. The Jackets took fourth place in a tournament that featured Apple Springs, Little-Centerville, Teague and Crockett. Top scorers in the tournament for Alto were: Morrison (56), Thacker (30) and Badgett (21).

Little Dribblers

Little Dribblers sign ups will be held at Rusk High School from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 12 and Jan. 19 at Rusk High School.

The Alto Yellowjackets basketball team opened District 22-A play Tuesday at home against Grapeland. The Jackets will travel to Latexo Friday before heading to Lovelady Jan. 15. The boys JV will begin play at 5 p.m., followed by the Lady Jackets varsity. The boys varsity team will play after the conclusion of the girls game.
