Eagles top Maud, fall to Diboll Good efforts and hard play were not enough to lift the Rusk Eagles over the Diboll Lumberjacks Dec. 21 as the Feathered Flock fell to the axemen by a score of 61-55. "We played well for three quarters and must learn how to put teams away, especially in this tough district when winning on the road is a premium," Head Coach Tracy Kincade said. "The boys are playing hard." Lead scorers for the Eagles were John David Beard and Horrace Lewis at 12 points each. Beard and Lewis combined for eight steals, and Lewis had 10 rebounds. Other scorers were: J.J. Session (8), Demarcus Skinner (5), Michael Katon (4), Terrance Turner (4), Bobby McDuff (4), Quinn Anthony (4) and Taj Cleaver (2). The Eagles had a breakout game against Maud at the White Oak tournament Thursday, winning 93-40. "We played the best we have all season," Coach Kincade said. "We shot extremely well." Session led scoring with 17 points, followed by Beard (14), Katon (13), Derek Sanders (13), Blake Fletcher (12), Lewis (12), Skinner (9) and Cleaver (5). "I was glad to see our young guys (Fletcher, Beard and Sanders) play well," Coach Kincade said. The Eagles return home today to face the Huntington Red Devils at noon at Rusk High School gymnasium. The Red Devils are coming off of an upset 39-38 win over the Hudson Hornets. The Eagles will then host Center Friday before traveling to Crockett Tuesday. Rusk is 8-7, 0-1 in district. |
