Trustees accept bus bids
      The Rusk Independent School District board approved the purchase of two regular buses and one air conditioned bus Monday evening. Mark Turney, transportation director, presented bids from three companies for board consideration.

Meetings postponed until February 2009
      The Cherokee County Alzheimer's Support Group will not meet in December or January. Meetings will resume the first Thursday in February 2009 (Feb. 5) at Southern Cherokee Federal Credit Union.

Stool retires, too
     County Judge Chris Davis presents retiring Tax Assessor Collector Linda Beard a stool from her office. Mrs. Beard was honored with a retirement party Dec. 5. She is leaving after 47 years of service to Cherokee County.

Rabid bat found near Rusk
      A rabid bat was discovered Nov. 6 at a home north of Rusk, between Oakland and Dialville. The homeowner heard her guard dogs barking. When she went to investigate she found the dogs circling a bat. Before she could reach them they attacked and killed the bat.

Greg James is speaker for Dec. 3 meeting
      Greg James reported to the club Dec. 3 on why he recently changed from selling new cars and trucks, to motor scooters, motor bikes and four wheelers. "It was because the car business nation-wide is very poor and gasoline is so much higher.

      With the arrival of the holiday season there are always children and adults who will not experience a visit from Santa Claus unless someone comes to the rescue. This year the number of folks without resources has grown because of the bad economy and loss of jobs.

'Glass Menagerie' auditions set
      Audition dates for the upcoming production of "The Glass Menagerie," have been announced by the director, Thomas D. Marquez. Auditions will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13 and 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14. Perusal scripts are available at the Singletary Memorial Library in Rusk, and the Jacksonville Public Library.

Alice Wonderland' cast
     Some cast members from the Cherokee Civic Theatre production of "Alice in Wonderland" marched in the Rusk Christmas parade Dec. 2. In front are Kennedy Foster, Julia Crosby, Cloe Henderson, Mya Gunter, Trinity Crosby and Haley Hanks; second row, Lindy Lykins, Abby Lykins, Trae Gunter, Noah Holley, Ashlen Richards, Scarlett Henderson; and in back, Brianna Brown, Tristan Kelley, Moira Debbs, Daniel (Eddie) Breen and Cody House. "Alice in Wonderland" will be presented at the Cherokee Theatre in Rusk at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12-13. Tickets are $6 for students; $9 for adults in advance; and $10 at the door.
