Cherokee County native publishes cookbook
      Christmas is in the air and a recipe book written by Cherokee County native Wanda Sessions Page Bamberg will make a wonderful stocking stuffer. The book is entitled "Moatleaf and Tup-a-Toes, Recipes of a Lifetime." The answer to the name of the book is hidden inside like a mystery.

Dream of Christmas
     Loretta Springer and Nancy McKean, Citizens 1st Bank, check out the Rusk Dream tree located in the bank lobby. Similar trees are set up at Greg James Country Motors, Austin Bank, Texas National Bank, Prosperity Bank, Cherokee County Teachers Credit Union, Southern Cherokee Federal Credit Union. Each tree contains the names and wish lists of disadvantaged children and senior citizens who need assistance this holiday. Applicants may apply through Thursday at the Rusk Lions Club.

Business of the month
     The Whistle Stop was named Rusk Business of the Month on Nov. 21. Owner, Sandra Sanders, staff members and representatives of the Rusk Chamber of Commerce help Mrs. Sanders display the Business of the Month banner. The store is located on the south of the square in Rusk and features a variety of items for the home, family and baby, purses, jewelry, books and candles for any occasion.

SFA research center personnel will meet with Heritage Center Dec. 11

Our Lady of Sorrows schedules events
      Several groups from the church will participate in the annual Jacksonville Christmas parade at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4. Participants will include Knights of Columbus, Aztec dancers, "Angel Train" and a float. There will be hot chocolate and apple cider at the parish hall following the parade.

      Lucas Edward Brooks was welcomed into this world Nov. 19 by his parents Joe and Laura Brooks, brother, Dylan, Brandon and sister, Destiny, all of Rusk. Lucas is the grandson of Joe and Dollie Brooks and Sue and Ed Erp, Doug Harris and the great-grandson of Robert and Sue Wallace, the late Jack Lucas, Novis and Kenneth Gardner and the late Robbie Brooks.

Life Line Screening planned for Dec. 9 in Jacksonville
      Life Line screening will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2020 Beaumont St., Jacksonville. The complete screening package now includes a new heart rhythm screening, checking for irregular heartbeat, a major risk factor for strokes. The Wellness Package with heart rhythm costs $149. All five screening take 60-90 minutes to complete.

Grand jury returns 24 indictments
      A Cherokee County Grand Jury returned 24 indictments Oct. 27. Indictments included injury to an elderly person, tampering with government records, burglary, delivery and possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated and theft.

Spaghetti supper, pictures with Santa follow parade
      The Alto FFA, Junior FFA and 4-H will sponsor a spaghetti and meat sauce dinner and pictures with Santa at the fire station immediately following the 6 p.m. Dec. 8 Christmas parade. Price for the dinner is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Pictures with Santa are $5 each.

Delivery persons needed for Meals on Wheels program
      Meals on Wheels is in urgent need of drivers to deliver food to homebound persons. Persons interested in volunteering are asked to contact Boots Burfoot at (903)683-5858 or Sarah Welch at (903)743-5351. Rusk has been divided into two routes and each takes about one to two hours.

Food collected for needy
     Sorting out donations for the Good Samaritan at Rusk Primary School are from left, Sandra Lenard, kneeling and Sue Nation, standing; Sandra Mabry and Angie Berry, right. Students at the primary school contributed 1,536 items of food to needy persons in the Rusk school district. Student council members from the high school picked up food items at all Rusk ISD campuses and delivered them to the Good Samaritan.

Victims, Survivors Against Violent Crimes tree ceremony planned Dec. 8 in Henderson
      Victims and Survivors Against Violent Crimes (VASAVC) will sponsor a Tree of Angels ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8 at the Rusk County Courthouse, 115 N. Main St., Henderson. The event will recognize victims of violent crimes.
