Rusk volleyball loses heartbreaker to Bullard
Lady Eagles finish 6-4 in district play
      Win or lose, the Rusk Eagle varsity volleyball team had a lot to be proud of going into their playoff game against Bullard on Tuesday night. After all, this was a team that finished last year's district slate at 0-8.

      Excuse Rusk ISD superintendent Dr. Jim Largent if he seems to have a perma-smile on his face. He's excited considering that he has a volleyball team in the playoffs, a football team on the verge of making the playoffs and now, a brand new coliseum style venue that is getting closer and closer to completion.

      JASPER - Needless to say, it wasn't a very happy Halloween in the "Bone Yard." The Jasper Bulldogs used a potent passing attack and a powerful defensive effort to defeat the Rusk Eagles this past Friday.

Indians lose to Kilgore; still have chance for playoffs
Jacksonville needs win Friday at Lindale and help from Kilgore for playoff spot
      JACKSONVILLE - To simplify Jacksonville's playoff picture, I'm going to say that Jacksonville needs to win to stay in the playoff hunt. A loss on Friday at Lindale in the regular season finale eliminates the Indians from their fourth straight postseason.

Regional qualifiers
     Jose Leon and Xochitl Castro of Alto High School have advanced to the Regional Cross Country meet on Saturday at Lone Star College in Humble. Leon placed first at the district meet while Castro placed 10th. The two runners are coached by Mildred Brown.

Golf tourney benefits N. Cherokee County VFD
      Golfers from around the area turned out for the 11th annual North Cherokee County Volunteer Fire Department golf tournament held Saturday October the 18th at The Woods At Jacksonville. The golf tournament is one of two major fundraisers the members organize each year. Participation and mild fall temperatures made it a successful day.
