State representative candidates scale back on expenses
2008 race isn't as costly as record-setting 2006 campaign

2 are charged with cattle theft
      Two men have been charged with theft of livestock in Cherokee County. The two men, Maximino Rivera, 41, and Pedro Perez, 33, both of Jacksonville, are being held in the Cherokee County Jail in lieu of posting $15,000 bond. Forrest Dyess, a dairyman, discovered five head of cattle in his trailer parked on CR 1416 near his farm around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

RSH governing body meets Nov. 7
      The Rusk State Hospital governing body will meet at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7 in the quality management department, building 501, Austin room of the hospital. The governing body meets each year to accept written and verbal reports presented by the hospital administration.

Coats for kids drive begins
      Women of the Rusk First Church of Christ are in the process of collecting coats and funds to purchase coats for area needy youngsters. Coats will be distributed at the church from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 15. Those seeking coats are asked to bring children to try them on.
