Starting over
      N ormally, I would avoid a McDonald's indoor playground like a bad germ I didn't want to catch, especially if it was filled to capacity with little cherubs who were tired, wired and stressed from a hurricane. But we had no electricity at home, and I was trying to recharge my laptop battery and build pg. 3A for the Sept. 17 issue of this newspaper.

SCENE in Passing
      N either rain nor wind, sleet nor snow, no, not even Hurricane Ike could keep Louise Nicholson from celebrating her 99th birthday. The first date scheduled for her special party was Ike's day.. The only option was to cancel the birthday cake, ice cream and candles. This might have shocked and discouraged the average citizen, but Louise remained undaunted.

HIGH POINTS from El Camino Real
      S ome folks along El Camino Real are struggling to get back to normal after the hurricane. It sure put me in a bind with hunting season starting up and free time being hard to come by. Brush will be easier to stack and burn in January because you can't burn green brush or we'd all be smoked out.
