Band Boosters meet Oct. 6
      The Rusk Band Boosters will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6 at the high school band hall. All band parents and friends are invited.

RHS Alumni Assn. will meet Oct. 17-18
      The Rusk High School Alumni Association will host its annual chili supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the high school cafeteria. Chili with trimmings, drink and dessert will be served for $6 per person. Graduating classes will be recognized at the football game that follows the chili supper.

Revival slated at Faith Holy Tabernacle Church
      Faith Holy Tabernacle Church will host a three night revival at 7 p.m. Oct, 8-10. Evangelist Benny Brooks will be in charge of services. Pastor Michael Bobbitt of Holy Ground Church will also be one of the speakers. The Rev. Sam Willis is host pastor. The public is invited to attend.

Pioneer & Heritage Festival returns
Chamber of commerce still has booth space available for exhibitors
      The Rusk Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for the annual Rusk Pioneer & Heritage Festival, planned Oct. 10-11 at the Texas State Railroad. The festival location was changed from Jim Hogg Park. On Friday, youngsters will be given the opportunity to ride the Texas State Railroad for 30 minutes free.

New tower with FM power
     PHOTO: ROBERT GONZALEZ l Sam Williams of Tower Specialists in Nacogdoches installs tranmitting antennas on the newly erected KWRW-FM/ KTLU-AM studio-to-transmitter tower atop of Guinn HIll in Rusk. During Hurricane Ike, a tower owned by Suddenlink Cable fell on top of the year-old tower owned by the radio stations. Loss of the tower caused the stations to broadcast using a portable transmitter in mono for more than two weeks. The new equipment became operational Monday.

Brigadoon
     P O Ford and Adam Tanner rehearse a scene from the upcoming Cherokee Civic Theatre production of Brigadoon." Mr. Ford plays the part of Jeff Douglas and Mr. Tanner, Tommy Albright. The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9-11 and 17-18 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Cherokee Theatre in downtown Rusk. Camille Jones is director.

Crimestoppers offer reward for fire information
      A home on CR 2215 in the Sardis community was destroyed by fire on Jan. 28. The fire was discovered Jan. 29. Arson is suspected. Cherokee County Crimestoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible for this fire.

Auditions for 'Alice in Wonderland' begin Oct. 18 at the theatre annex
Calling all boys and girls to try out for a fun filled adventure
      Audition dates have been announced for the winter production of "Alice In Wonderland," directed by Castanya Breen. Auditions will be held Oct. 18, 19 and 20. "Alice In Wonderland" is a fantastic adventure; complete with talking animals, a wild tea party, and a pack of cards with a mind of their own.

Coach Ted Patton speaks at recent Lions meeting
      Rusk ISD head coach and athletic director Ted Patton spoke at the Sept. 25 Lions Club meeting. He was a 1988 graduate of Cisco High School. He attended two years at Cisco Junior College and was All American his sophomore year on the football team. He graduated from Baylor University with a degree in English in 1992.

      Deborah Shreve of Jacksonville, a Democrat. is seeking election to the Cherokee County Tax Assessor/ Collector position, held by Linda Beard for the past 38 years. Mrs. Shreve, known as Debbie, is a lifelong Cherokee County resident.

      Cherokee County residents and business owners can make application for Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster assistance. Cherokee County has been declared a disaster area from the effect of Hurricane Ike.
