The patron drive for the Stella Hill Memorial Library was a huge success this year. All the members of the Alto Thursday Study Club worked to acquire necessary funds needed to support the library for the next year. There were four categories for contributors to assist the library in obtaining its goal. More ... The city of Austin approved a $2.3 billion dollar biomass power contract from Nacogdoches Power LLC to buy power from a biomass plant based in East Texas at a meeting Aug. 28. The proposed biomass plant is set to be built in the town of Sacul, just north of Nacogdoches, and would be operated by Nacogdoches Power LLC. More ... The Hodge Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is sponsoring a photography contest. The entry fee for the contest is $5 per photo or $10 for three photos.
