Cast members for 'Brigadoon' told
      Cherokee Civic Theatre has announced the cast for the upcoming fall musical, "Brigadoon." The show will be directed by Camille Jones, assisted by Diki Parker. Jerry Parker will be producer. LaRetta Britton is the musical director and Jessica Breen-Ford, choreographer. The show will be accompanied by Roy Reynolds.

Sydeny Katherine Walters
      Wade and Lauren Coke Walters of Dallas announce the arrival of a daughter, Sydeny Katherine Walters, on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. She weighed six pounds and 11 ounces and was 19 inches long. Grandparents are Sally Summers Coke of Jacksonville and Tyler, Jack L. Coke Jr. of Dallas and Jo and John McWilliams of Kingsland.

Senator Nichols speaks on transportation, road history
      Speaker for the Aug. 28 meeting was Texas Sen. Robert Nichols. He spoke of his grandfather being a Methodist minister in Rusk in the late 1940s. He said he discovered when he was elected to the Texas Senate that it had been 104 years since a senator had been elected from Cherokee County. That senator was James I. Perkins from Rusk.

District 2S-1 Governor Harold Yost Speaks to club
      President Jeff Johnson introduced District 2S-1 Governor Harold Yost as speaker at the Aug. 21 meeting. President Yost praised the Rusk Lions for all its accomplishments. He said his goal for the year was to bring in five new Lions Clubs for District 2S-1. He felt like the new clubs would be organized in Nacogdoches at Stephen F.

Pioneer Club meets at Rusk Church of Christ
      The Rusk Church of Christ has resumed its Pioneer Club from 7-8 p.m. each Wednesday. The club is for children ages two through high school. The church membership invites all area children to join. A fourth grader said a pioneer club "is learning about God and having fun doing it!
