School supplies distributed by Our Lady of Sorrows
      A total of 370 children and their families received packages of school supplies last week at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Jacksonville. This is the fourth year the parish has helped families prepare for the school year. Students from throughout Cherokee County were able to receive grade specific packages of school supplies.

Speaker discusses archeology at meeting
      The Lions Club program was presented by Barbara Chadwick, an eighth grade history teacher at Jacksonville. She is serving her third term as a Region 4 Director of the Texas Archeology Society. The first annual meeting was held in Abilene Oct. 26, 1929. The 78th annual meeting will be held in Lubbock Oct. 24-26.
