      JACKSONVILLE - An open house and ribbon-cutting will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at the new Tyler Junior College-Jacksonville facility.

Alto ISD approves 2008-09 tax rate
      The Alto School Board approved a new tax rate for the upcoming school year at the monthly meeting on Aug. 18. The tax rate includes maintenance and operations of Alto ISD, which is now $1.04 per $100 valuation, the same rate as last school year. Meanwhile, the tax rate for payment on principal and interest (I&S) rose to $0.23 per $100 valuation.

Crisis Center receives $120,000 federal grant
      The Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties will receive $120,000 from a $20.9 million grant to 179 programs in Texas. The grant funds are awarded under the federal Victims of Crime Act Fund (VOCA) and distributed by the Governor's Criminal Justice Division (CJD).
