      In February, Congressman Jeb Hensarling nominated Mayor Angela Raiborn, Rachel Loden, Penny Reynolds, Toni Meador, Teresa Langley and me to attend the Business and Professional Women's Leadership Summit policy forum, hosted by U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.

East Bound Express
     Homecoming was held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Atoy Baptist Church. A covered dish luncheon was served at noon. The Rev. Dan Rankin is pastor. Special entertainment was provided at 1 p.m. by the East Bound Express with Reginald Wise and Friends and daughter, Sarah. The group is composed of Maxie Wynn, Tom and Pauline Langley, Ken Ryan, John Lalkey and Rev. Odis Bryan.

Distinguished Service Award
     Terry Guinn, chairman, and Jim Cromwell, vice-chairman, of Cherokee County were presented the Distinguished Service Award May 2 at Texas Historical Commission's annual meeting. The award was the 21st for the Cherokee County Historical Commission. Awards were given to Cherokee County in 1977 and 1987 and each consecutive year since 1990. The county historical commission was recognized for its members' efforts in preserving the history of the county and the area. From left are John L. Nau III, chairman of the state commission; Mr. Cromwell; Mr. Guinn; and Larry Oats, executive director of the Texas Historical Commission.

TNT registration is now underway
      The Cherokee Civic Theatre is getting ready for another summer of fun with their Thespians N Training (TNT) summer camp in June. The year 2008 marks the fifth year for CCT to host the camp. This year's producers are Judy Faye Garner and Debra Petri. "I'm very excited to be working with a great group of directors," stated Mrs. Garner.

Mr., Ms. Jacksonville College
     Mr. and Ms. Jacksonville College named at the spring banquet in April are Jason Steele of Waxahachie and Megan Cumbee, now of Jacksonville, but a Rusk High School graduate. She is the daughter of Ann and Will Cumbee of Jacksonville. Mr. and Mrs. Cumbee decorated the First Baptist Church family life center for the banquet.
