Alto baseball/softball teams continue playoff run this week
Baseball takes on West Sabine, softball faces Detroit
     Last week was a good week for the Mean Sting diamond teams of Alto. The Yellowjacket baseball team swept a three-game series with Lovelady in the area round of the playoffs while the Lady Jacket softball team knocked off Mt. Enterprise to advance to the regional semifinals.

Jackets dominate game 1 of area championship series
Alto wins by 10-run rule, Mitchell hurls no-hitter
     Alto's bats fired up in the second inning to give the Jackets a huge 8-0 advantage en route to an 11-1 victory over Lovelady in five innings at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin Friday. Alto's run was capped off by a three-run homer by freshman Rhett Gresham.

Lady Jackets tame Galcats in regional quarterfinal
Tyler bats 1.000 with 4 runs scored
     The Alto Lady Jackets continued their run through the Class A softball playoffs Tuesday by knocking off district rival Mt. Enterprise 8-1 at Lady Eagle Field in Rusk. Alto's bats fired up with 11 hits while the defense held Mt. Enterprise to one run and two hits.

Rusk falls to Robinson
Troublesome 2nd inning spells heartbreaker for Rusk
      One inning made the difference as the Rusk Lady Eagles ended their season at the hands of the Robinson Rockettes in the area round of the Region 3 Class 3A playoffs. Robinson won the game 4-1. The game featured the pitching battle between Rusk's Callie Collins and Robinson's Hannah White. Collins had seven strike outs while White had six.

McDuff signs with Bacone College
     Bobby McDuff of Rusk High School accepts a football scholarship from Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla. Athletic banquet tickets
     PHOTO: JEREME HUBBARD Rusk Quarterback Club member Shelly Hughes sells a ticket to the Rusk High School Athletic Banquet. The banquet will be May 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rusk Junior High cafeteria, with a meet and greet with new Athletic Director Ted Patton beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Rusk Junior High foyer.       The Alto track teams dominated the regional track meet held April 25-26 in Nacogdoches. The Yellowjackets qualified three boys relay teams and two girls relay teams for the state track meet May 9-10 on the campus of the University

All-star basketball camp accepts applications
      Final applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp. The Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp is by invitation only. Boys and girls ages 10-19 are eligible to apply. Past participants include: Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill and Antawn Jamison.
