Low cost rabies clinics end Monday, May 12
County vets join forces to vaccinate almost 1,500 pets

      Cherokee County is winning its fight with rabies, said local vets. There have been no rabies cases reported in 2008 to the Department of Health. Only one rabid skunk was located last year. In 2006, two bats and one skunk were found to have rabies.

Kindergarten registration slated May 9 at Rusk Primary School
      Registration for Rusk ISD Kindergarten students for the 2008-09 school year will be held from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, May 9 at the primary school office. All children who will be five-years-of-age, on or before Sept. 1, may register for all day kindergarten classes on this day. Children who will be four-years-old, on or before Sept.

Stamp out hunger drive is Saturday
U.S. POST OFFICE
      Rusk postal employees will join others from throughout the United States in collecting food for the needy during the annual food drive May 10. Letter carriers will again help "Stamp Out Hunger" across America with the nation's largest single-day food drive. They have collected more than 836 million pounds of food since the drive's inception.

Council will discuss zone change
CITY OF RUSK
      The Rusk City Council will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday at city hall to consider an agenda of 17 items. Among the items expected for approval will be a resolution for articles of incorporation and by-laws of the new 4B sales tax corporation.
