Alto church schedules holy week schedule
      Holy Week will be a time of special celebration and worship at the A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church in Alto. Palm Sunday worship begins with the Children's Parade of Palms commemorating the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem.

By His Stripes
     First Church on the Hill will present "By His Stripes" at 7 p.m. Friday, March 21, and 9:45 a.m. Easter Sunday March 23. The play was written and directed by the church's drama department. Admission is free. Regular donor
     Martha DeRouen, a phlebotomist with the Blood Center East Texas, draws blood from Cedric Edwards. Mr. Edwards' son, Anthony, has Sickle Cell Anemia and requires regular blood transfusions from donors with specially matched blood most often found in individuals of the same ethnicity. Anthony is featured in the 2008 Commit for Life calendar to encourage more African-Americans to donate blood for sickle cell patients like him. Easter 'Eggs'travaganza slated at church
      First Church on the Hill will sponsor its first Easter "Eggs"travaganza, "He Lives," from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at the church. The public is invited to bring the entire family for a day of fun and fellowship. There will be games, food, and door prizes.

Carmen Dotson tells her life's story
      Members of the Rusk Library Study Club met Feb. 12 in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church to hear Carmen Dotson tell her life story. Ollie Parrott introduced the speaker. Mrs. Dotson began her story by saying, "You know that song, 'I've Been Everywhere,' well I have not been much of anywhere. I've lived in the Rusk area almost all my life.

Vaught-Nilsen
     Chris and Karen Vaught announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Shelby, to Adam Nilsen. Ms. Vaught is the granddaughter of Rita Wiggins and the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Vaught. Mr. Nilsen is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cory John Nilsen and the nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Audric Courville of Mansura, La. Ms. Vaught is employed by Leslie WM Adams & Associates, Mr. Nilsen is employed by National Oilwell Varc. The couple will wed on July 12 in Spring. They will continue to reside in Houston.

     Jessica Ann Castleberry of Tyler and Joseph Coleman Bostock of Gallatin were united in marriage Jan. 21 in Hot Springs, Ark. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garth Castleberry of Diana and granddaughter of Janice Castleberry of Longview and the late Jack Castleberry and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Riley of Canton. She is employed at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. Mr. Bostock is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bostock III of Gallatin. The couple lives in Tyler.
