Voter turnout considered moderate
Voter turnout was termed moderate in Tuesday's Cherokee County primary elections. A total of 9,424 persons cast ballots in the Democratic and Republican primary election. The Kingsmen Quartet will be presented in concert at 7 p.m. March 14 at the Neches High School gym. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. There is no charge for pre-school children. Tickets at the door are higher. The event is sponsored by the Neches Volunteer Fire Department. Rusk finishes second in Fairfield tourney
By the time the Rusk Eagles took the field on Thursday evening, they had already taken down one opponent on the day, defeating John Tyler in the opening round of the Fairfield Tournament. Funeral for Laura Mae Hicks, 72, of Rusk, was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Mount Olive Baptist Church. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Hicks died Feb. 20. She attended Grapeland public schools and was a housekeeper and a Baptist. More...
Cassi Fletcher and Libby Berry, along with their classmates at Rusk Intermediate School, are helping raise money in the Pennies for Patients campaign. The program benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For three weeks, students have brought in spare change for people with blood cancers such as leukemia. Leukemia strikes more children and young adults under the age of 20 than any other type of cancer. After just two weeks, Rusk Intermediate students have contributed $593.22.
