Constable Lee objects

Cherokee County Constable Eddie Lee, Pct. 3, said Dec. 3 that he objects to a headline appearing in the Nov. 28 issue of the Cherokeean Herald.

The story in the Nov. 28 issue discussed complaints concerning Mr. Lee's writing traffic tickets in precincts other than Precinct 3. The headline read "Constable is writing too many tickets."

Mr. Lee said he had only written one ticket outside his precinct and that was for no insurance. The ticket was written in Precinct 1 and he said he did not refer the person to the Precinct 1 justice of the peace but to Precinct 3.

He said he transported Jackie Meyers of the Texas State Comptroller's office around the county.

She ticketed two trucks from Cuney in Precinct 2. Also, Ms. Meyers stopped another vehicle for crossing the state line using red diesel fuel and another at Joe Smith's Plant Farm in Precinct 1.

It is unlawful to use the red diesel fuel on roadways. The fuel is only allowed on agricultural property, Mr. Lee said.

"I do not tell the state where to file their tickets and Ms. Meyers took her tickets to Precinct 3," he said.
