Alto's championship run to feature new, old faces

After defeating longtime rival Groveton in the area finals of the Texas state playoffs, Alto will see some new faces on the road to the finals.

Friday, Alto faces Joaquin, who defeated Wolfe City 52-26 in the area round of the playoffs. Joaquin has enjoyed dominating wins this season, including a 53-16 win over Simms Bowie in the Bi-District round of the playoffs.

A win over Joaquin will pit the Mean Sting against the winner of the Shiner/Granger game in the state semifinals. Last year's semifinal opponent was Iola.

The McCamey Badgers hope to rematch Alto in the state finals, but will have to get past Sunray and the winner of the Seymour/Valley Mills game in order to do so.

Alto will play Joaquin at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Tatum.
