Rusk native named officer for state board The Texas State Board of Pharmacy has announced that Rusk native, Jeanne Duncan Waggener, R.Ph., has been elected treasurer of the board to serve Sept. 1- Aug. 31, 2008. Ms. Waggener was appointed to the board in 2006 by Gov. Rick Perry. She is the daughter of the late Adon and Montel Duncan. Ms. Waggener is the assistant manager of the Wal- Mart Pharmacy in Belimead (Waco). As the assistant manager in one of the top 50 pharmacies in the company, she is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations and supervising personnel in a high volume pharmacy. Ms. Waggener received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1972 from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. She practiced in community pharmacy for 17 years with 10 of those years being in a professional setting before joining Wal-Mart Pharmacy in 1989. Her professional memberships include the Texas Pharmacy Association and the Heart of Texas Pharmacy Association. She currently serves as a member of the advisory council for the Texas State Technical College Pharmacy Technician Program. Since 2005, she has also served as a member of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Drug Use Review (DUR) Board. Mrs. Waggener has been involved in both community and church organizations. After seeing the impact that science fair competition had on her son's life, Mrs. Waggener decided to devote her efforts into ensuring that middle and high school students in grades 6-12 would have the same opportunity afforded her son. She became involved with the Central Texas Science and Engineering Fair where she has served as president of the board of trustees since 1997. She has also served as the Institutional Review Board Chairperson of the ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair, and in 2004 was elected as the chairperson of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) Advisory Council. Mrs. Waggener was also selected by Science Service, the nonprofit educational organization who conducts the Intel ISEF, to serve on the Best Practices Committee to assist in the management of science fairs at all levels. In 2004 as a result of her commitment to excellence in science and involvement in the community as a volunteer she was awarded the first Outstanding Performance Award given by Wal-Mart Pharmacy. She was chosen as one of 29 regional community pharmacists of the Year, one of five divisional community pharmacists of the year, and finally, the 2007 Wal-Mart Community Pharmacist of the Year at the 2007 Year Beginning Meeting held in Kansas City, Kan. The award was presented based upon volunteer activities in the community as well as contributions to the profession of pharmacy while working for Wal-Mart. She has served on the Federation Board of Texas A&M Mothers Clubs and the Board of Directors of the Junior League of Waco. She has served as parsonage chairperson and is an usher captain at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church in Waco. Mrs. Waggener is married to a dentist, Dr. Tommy Waggener, and has one son, Jay Sartain, a banker with the Royal Bank of Canada in Houston. The Texas State Board of Pharmacy is an independent |
