VFW NEWS Veterans Day program The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary helped coordinate and participated in the annual Veterans Day Program, Saturday, Nov. 10th on the square in Rusk. Each year the auxiliary releases balloons after reading submitted names of veterans that have or are serving in the armed forces. This raises money for their cancer aid and research program. After the program attendees were invited to the VFW Post for refreshments and to review the display of veteran memorabilia of local men and women. This year more than 500 Rusk students visited the exhibit. Rusk High School student council served dinner. Auxiliary presents special program at nursing home The VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Rusk presented a special program at the Alto Nursing Center. Several members met at the nursing center Friday, Nov. 9, and honored the veterans with patriotic music, history of the Buddy Poppy and what Veterans Day really means. Marsha Green, activities director, told a story of her special veteran. Cake and punch were served. |
