Without God, this nation will fall
ROSE MARY JONES Rusk

I honor our flag, obey the laws, respect the Constitution and worship God. However, there are some who think their ideas should be put into place regardless of laws and try to change our Constitution to fit their purpose. They are trying to change the foundation of our country.

Our Pledge of Allegiance has been discriminated against because of the words "under God." Prayer was taken out of our schools; our flag has been dishonored by burning it. How could this have happened since our country was founded on principles, prayer and God?

At the first National Flag Conference in Washington, D.C., on June 14, 1923, a change was made for charity in the Pledge of Allegiance: "the Flag of United States" replaced "my flag." In 1942 Congress officially recognized the Pledge of Allegiance; and in June 1954, an amendment was made to add the words "under God."

President Dwight D. Eisenhower said, "In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource in peace and war."

Russell Clearman wrote "One nation... under God" means that we have this land, this flag, this government as a gift from the great God almighty. It means that this did not become the "free and the home of the brave" by blind fate. When Columbus discovered this land, he took a cross in his own hands and planted it upon the new soil, fell upon his knees and kissing the earth took possession of the continent for God.

Our heritage and foundation is slowly being chipped away by groups of people who do not like the concept that we are a Christian nation. We need permanent laws to protect our historical writings and documents so that our history cannot be changed.

We need to be sure that the next generation keeps our heritage and foundation like our forefathers made it - without God, our nation will fall.
