Log truck rollover

No one was hurt when a log truck owned by Mauldin Logging Company of Overton crossed four lanes of U.S. Highway 69 north of Rusk, left the roadway and rolled over. The driver of the truck, Melvin Ozell Grant, told Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Leonard Sandifer, that he was traveling west on CR 1503 when his brakes failed, causing him to run the stop sign. Trooper Sandifer said Mr. Grant attempted to turn south on U.S. 69 before the truck left the roadway at an unsafe speed and overturned. Trooper Sandifer said defective equipment may have contributed to the accident.
