County show raises more than $20,000

The Cherokee County hay show and auction raised more than $20,000 after expenses. Proceeds from the event sponsored by the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce will go toward the Cherokee County scholarship fund, the Cherokee County Expedition Show fund and the Soil and Water Conservation scholarship fund.
This annual event is sponsored by the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Agri-Business Committee, chaired by Charles Dickerson and Susan Jones. Members of the committee are Father Mark Kusmirek (Community Development Division chair), Roland Adams, Chris Lester, Jack White, James Tennison, James Batton, Ron Pierce, Ralph Lindsey and Doyle Conner.
Crystal Butler of Jacksonville was the grand champion hay producer with 18.23 percent crude protein and 61 percent TDN . Her hay sold for a total of $1,900. The Grand Champion buyer was Agri-Land Farm Credit of Tyler for a total of $1,450, with addons from Fish & Still Equipment, $200; Citizens 1st Bank, $100; Adams Cherokee Self Service Storage, $50; and Animal Medical Clinic, $100.

The
reserve grand champion award went to Wayne Beal of Troup with a crude protein
content of 16.59 percent and TDN, 58.2 percent. His hay sold for $1,400. The
buyer was Mr. Beal, with add-on from Fish & Still Equipment for $200.
