Vets invited to schools to participate in programs With the observance of Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 12, several area schools are holding special programs to honor veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. "We will be having a community wide, student led Veterans Day program on Monday," said Dr. Ray De- Spain, Alto ISD superintendent. "It will be led by our student council." The event, scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 12 at the football stadium in Alto, involves local veterans and members of the community. "The student council has sent invitations to the veterans who live in Alto ISD," Dr. DeSpain said. "After the ceremony, we will have a reception for the veterans and their families and lunch will be provided for them in the cafeteria." The program will feature a musical performance by Alto Elementary students, and Veterans Day poems, readings and facts from Alto Middle School and Alto High School. The U.S. Army Band will visit Rusk High School and Rusk Junior High today at 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The program will feature the band, several veteran speakers and the colors will be presented and retired. The Rusk Intermediate School will have a veterans' breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the intermediate school cafeteria. Wayne Morgan will be the keynote speaker and the Wall of Honor, constructed out of paper bricks by students, will be on display. The Rusk Elementary School will hold their annual Veterans Day program at the Rusk High School Auditorium at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9. |
