Church plans revival

Members of Faith Holy Tabernacle Church will conduct a pre-Thanksgiving revival. at 7 p.m. Nov. 14-16 with the Rev. Benny Brooks, evangelist.

Pastor Rev. Sam E. Willis invites the public to come and join in these special services of worship.

Credit by exam slated

Rusk High School will administer Credit By Exam tests to enrolled high school students Dec. 17-18.

Students need to register for the exam they wish to take by Nov. 16.

ETMC slates blood drive

ETMC Rusk will have a blood drive from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 8 on the mobile bus in the parking lot.

All donors will receive a t-shirt. Donors will also participate in drawings sponsored by Stewart Blood Center.

ETMC Tyler, the region's number one trauma center, uses an average of 950 units of blood a month. Each donor can give one unit so it takes a lot of people to help East Texans. Persons 17 years of age may donate blood.

Blood drive slated at

Cherokee County Coop

A blood drive is planned for noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Cherokee County Electric Coop, 29880 U.S. Highway 69 N. in Rusk. The Stewart Blood Center staff will set up in the community room.

Donors are asked to eat a good meal and bring a picture ID. Contact Nan Glaze at (903) 683-2248 for additional information.

Relay for Life schedules

Several members of the Cherokee County Relay For Life Committee attended the 2007-08 High Plains Relay For Life University Nov. 3 at the University of Texas at Tyler. The event was hosted by the East Texas Region of the American Cancer Society. Approximately 144 volunteers and staff attended. Committee members attending from Cherokee County were Cynthia Kline, Randy Vanderstay, Dianna Vega, Debbie Griffin, Margaret Croft and Dorothy Alvarez.

A group of Cherokee County Relayers will attend Relay University in Lufkin Saturday, Nov. 10. Persons interested in volunteering on the Cherokee County Committee or serving as a team captain may still attend this final day of Relay University. This event will be held at the Lufkin Middle School from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

10 at Butler Park

Alpha Alpha Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will sponsor its second annual photo frenzy Saturday, Nov. 10, at Butler Park on the old Rusk College steps.

A photographer will be available for individual or group pictures.

Cost is $25. The photos will be stored on a disc and can be used by the purchaser for photo Christmas cards. For additional information call Carri Hassell at (903) 795-5542.

Good Samaritan needs

contributions

The Good Samaritan Food Bank and Resale Shop, Second Street in Rusk, needs personal hygiene items and canned goods. The Good Samaritan help needy families with food and offers clothes for only 25 cents per item.

All donations are appreciated. Canned goods and peanut butter are always in demand as well as soap, deodorant, tooth paste, toilet paper and other personal hygiene items.\

Church schedules gospel

The Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church, off FM 1248, will sponsor a gospel singing at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.

Mark Lanier, who was at Memorial Baptist Church a short time ago, will sing. He writes most of the songs he sings.

"You will receive a blessing by hearing him sing and talk about Jesus," said the Rev. Don Copeland, pastor.

To get to the church turn left on FM 1248 off U.S. Highway 84 W. at the State Crossing, travel 5.8 miles and turn right at the Mount Hope Cemetery sign. The church is at the top of the hill.

Luke Garrett will present

concert at First Baptist

Church Nov. 11

Luke Garrett, a well known Gospel singer who has performed all across the United States, Europe, Asia, South Africa and the Middle East, will be in concert at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at First Baptist Church in Rusk.

Mr. Garrett has performed for every U.S. President since Ronald Reagan and is an artist on the Home Sweet Home Records label.

His music has been recorded by the Imperials and the Gold City Quartet.

Methodist women sell

cookbooks, CDs

The Methodist Women and Prayer Group of A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church have cookbooks and CDs for sale. Seven hundred recipes are featured. The cookbooks are $15; CDs, $10; and both, $20. To order contact Betty Davis, (936) 858-4708 and the church office at (936) 858-4347.

recycling program

Area residents are asked to take old electronic equipment to the Rusk State Hospital Community Relations office. Needed are old DVD players, movies, games, cell phones, ink cartridges, laptop computers, MP3 player, X-Boxes, Sonny Playstations, digital cameras and video cameras, digital picture frames, portable Navigation and GPS devices. These items do not need to be working to be recycled.
