NEWS Rusk Methodists plan chicken spaghetti dinner The annual chicken spaghetti dinner at First United Methodist Church will be from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the church fellowship hall. Tickets are $6. No Booster Club this week The Rusk Athletic Booster Club will not meet Monday, Nov. 5, but will provide concessions for the powder puff football game beginning at 7 p.m. Palestine named Main Street City Palestine has been named an official Main Street City for 2008 through the efforts and dedication of the Main Street board, property owners, citizens, employees, staff, management, board and commission members, as well as chamber members and private citizens. Palestine scored Number One of all the 2008 Main Street applications. ETMC slates blood drive ETMC Rusk will have a blood drive from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 8 on the mobile bus in the parking lot. All donors will receive a t-shirt. Donors will also participate in drawings sponsored by Stewart Blood Center. ETMC Tyler, the region's number one trauma center, uses an average of 950 units of blood a month. Each donor can give one unit so it takes a lot of people to help East Texans. Sixty percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood. However, only five percent donates. One unit of donated blood can help save the lives of up to three persons. Approximately 38,000 units of blood are used each day in the United States. Persons, 17 years of age and older and weighing 110 pounds, may donate blood every 56 days. Flu vaccines are available in Cherokee County The Cherokee County Health Department offers flu (influenza) vaccinations for adults and children over six-months-old from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at its clinics at 593 N. Main in Rusk and 510 E. Commerce Street in Jacksonville. Vaccinations cost $7 for children, over six months-17; and $20 for persons over age 17. Children younger than six months of age are too young to be vaccinated. Vaccines are given on a first come first served basis. Maps to each location are available at www.cchdtexas.org. Photo frenzy planned Nov. 10 at Butler Park Alpha Alpha Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will sponsor its second annual photo frenzy Saturday, Nov. 10, at Butler Park on the old Rusk College steps. A photographer will be available for individual or group pictures. Cost is $25. The photos will be stored on a disc and can be used by the purchaser for photo Christmas cards. For additional information call Carri Hassell at (903) 795-5542. Band Boosters slate meeting for Nov. 12 The Rusk Band Boosters will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 at the Rusk Band Hall. This meeting is on the second Monday instead of the regular first Monday of the month. |
