Rusk Police were called to Brookshire Bros. Grocery store early Sunday morning to investigate what could only be described as a brazen burglary that netted an undisclosed amount of money from a safe.

About 4:55 a.m. an employee arriving for work saw the masked men get away in either a black Crown Victoria or Chevy Caprice and called police.

Rusk Police Chief Ronnie Miller said entry was made through a glass pane the burglars broke at the front of the building. Using crowbars and sledge hammers, the burglars were able to force open the safe and make off with the cash.

Police have reviewed security video tapes of the burglary showing three masked burglars participated in the crime. However, the floor cleaning man who happened upon the burglary, saw four men.

Assistant Police Chief Roy Cavazoz told the Cherokeean Herald they are following leads that have been developed from interviewing the employee and other sources which they hope will lead them to the robbers. It is not believed that the burglars are from the local area.

Anyone with knowledge of this crime is urged to contact the Rusk Police Department at (903) 683-2213.
