Coats for kids drive

is underway

Used or new coats may be donated to the Rusk Coats for Kids campaign at the Church of Christ Annex building on Main Street.

Good used or new coats may be taken to the church annex Monday- Friday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The coats will be given to children Dec. 1.

Rusk Church of Christ

plans fall festival Oct. 27

The Rusk Church of Christ will host a fall festival from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 27. Each child, 12 and under, will be given 25 free tickets to spend at the booths of their choice. More than 20 booths will be set up in the parking lot at 397 S. Main St. Children are invited to attend in costume. There will be prizes of toys, candy, drinks, popcorn, sno-cones, balloons, cookies and apples.

There will be a spinning wheel, cake walk, face painting and other entertainment.

Landrum family has

reunion Oct. 13

The annual Landrum reunion was held at Mission Tejas park in Weches, Saturday, Oct. 13. The Landrum family are descendents of Bob and Roxie Landrum who lived most of their lives in Cherokee County. The family has been meeting at the park since 1994. They gathered at the pavilion to share food and family memories.

Generations of grandchildren have enjoyed the playground adjacent to the pavilion and the nearby pond every year. This year family members listened to stories of the family's history and growing up in East Texas. Speakers were the oldest family members, Letha Landrum-Collins, Donald Landrum, Delbert Landrum, Veda Landrum-Thibodeaux and Eva Landrum-Nance.

Members of the family travel from Houston, Beaumont, Port Arthur and Austin areas. Attending were 47.

Sheriff's administrative

assistant attends training

Carolyn Martin from the Cherokee County Sheriff's office recently attended the fifth annual training conference in Austin Oct. 1-3. The Sheriff's Association of Texas conducts this conference at no cost to administrative personnel. Participants are provided with critical training on topics that affect the duties and responsibilities of their offices. More than 150 persons attended this year's session. Each participant received training in sex offender registration and crime victims compensation.

Band Boosters slate

meeting for Nov. 12

The Rusk Band Boosters will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 at the Rusk Band Hall. This meeting is on the second Monday instead of the regular first Monday of the month.

Alto Lions plan Christmas

parade Dec. 10

The Alto Lions Club will sponsor the annual Alto Christmas parade at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10. Those wishing to participate are encouraged to meet at the Missionary Baptist Church, 107 Elkhart, at 5:30 p.m. the day of the parade. Theme for this year's parade is "A Family Christmas." Plans are to have the Christmas parade annually on the second Monday of each December.

The Alto Lions Club meets weekly at noon at the Stella Hill Memorial Library. The public is invited to attend. For additional information contact David at (936) 858-4826.

cookbooks, CDs
