Rusk slates fall clean-up

Rusk city-wide clean-up is planned for 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 3 and 10, at the city barn on U.S. Highway 69 S. and at Conley Park, Reeder Street.

The clean-up is restricted only to residents who reside within the city limits or customers receiving city water service. City workers will monitor each dump site.

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has strict regulations and guidelines that the city is required to follow.

Items that are not accepted are liquids of any kind, whole tires (must be split or quartered), oil or oil filters, refrigerators, air conditioning units or any appliance containing CFC's (Freon), lead acid batteries, hazardous waste, chemicals or pesticides, paint or paint buckets (only if paint is completely dried and free of liquid), medical waste of any kind and dead animals.

Items that are allowed include brush and yard waste, bulky items, household items, furniture, outdoor grills, dishwashers, appliances (that do not use Freon), paper and cardboard items, lawn mowers, construction debris, wood and metal items, mattress sets and water heaters. The accepted items are mentioned as a guideline and not inclusive. Persons may throw away anything as long as it is not on the non-acceptable list.

All items must be manageable by two people when loading the container.
