Rusk band competes in

marching contest

The Rusk High School marching band will compete in UIL contest at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at Stephen F. Austin State University's Homer Bryce Stadium.

Jacksonville High School band will march at 6:45 p.m. High school bands from throughout East Texas will participate in the event. Competition begins early in the day with 1A schools and concludes that evening with 5A bands.

Alto High School will not enter the UIL competition, but will compete Nov. 3 at Northwest State University in Natchitoches, La. Seussical, the Musical' on

stage this weekend

The Cherokee Civic Theatre production of "Seussical the Musical," directed by Karen Hendley, will be presented this weekend at the Cherokee Theater in Rusk. Friday and Saturday night performances are at 7:30 and a Sunday matinee performance will be at 2 p.m.

Tickets are on sale at the box office or by calling (903) 683-2131. Advance tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children.Tickets at the door are $10.

Heritage Center displays

Swink exhibit 2 weekends

"The Jim Swink Story," a comprehensive exhibit chronicling the career of Rusk All American football player Jim Swink, will be on display at the Heritage Center of Cherokee County for the next two weekends.

The exhibit will be open Oct. 20-21 and Oct. 27-28. Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. Sundays.
