Volunteers make Archeology Fair 2007 a big success
JENNIFER PRICE

Demonstrators create miniature huts similar to the ones constructed by Caddoan Indians in Texas from 750-1400 A.D. More than 450 persons attended the second Archeology Fair, which featured members of the Alabama-Coushatta Indian tribe near Livingston. Professors and students of Stephen F. Austin State University assisted.
Archeology Fair 2007 at Caddoan Mounds State Historic Site in Alto was a great hit again.

We began the day in fear of no visitors with rain and a dark cloud cover. Yet, with great surprise, we were in full action at 11 a.m.

We became so busy, that I cannot recall at what time the drizzling rain came to a halt. We were all having FUN - workers, volunteers and visitors.

Some of our visitors traveled from Austin, Houston, Dallas, Tyler, Athens and various surrounding communities.

We had a school bus of approximately 40 students from Clear Creek Middle School in Houston.

We had approximately 450 visitors.

We could not have done this successfully without the help of our volunteers: Mission Tejas State Park staff, Alabama Coushatta Indians from their reservation near Livingston, Stephen F. Austin State University professors and students, Friends Group of Mission Tejas State Park, Dutch Oven Society, Texas Historical Commission, United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Marshall's Pottery and many other volunteers with artistic skills.Thank to everyone for such a successful event.
