Hill Street Blues: New dump site started near downtown Rusk

A local businessman complained to the Cherokeean Herald about the intersection of Hill and Henderson streets, where someone is using a vacant lot to dispose of dead trees and yard debris.

It seems many in Rusk love the town and want to see improvements made. I am included in that category and spent a nice sum to improve the section of Main Street where our new office is located.

We spent extra money to have an old building and shed removed and now keep our lot nicely manicured and maintained. Hopefully, the citizens of Rusk see the improvement and appreciate it.

Just as we think we have made progress on our block, regress appears. Just behind us, on the same block, a new dumpsite has been started at the corner of Hill Street and Henderson Street.

At first it was an old pine tree that was cut and pushed onto the lot. Now, there is a sizeable load of oak limbs and trash that has been dumped there to complement the rotting pine debris. It has created quite an eye sore and a comfortable home for rats and other unwanted critters.

Stuff runs downhill, and I suspect it is only a matter of time till the trash washes down the hill and onto our property.

It is terribly frustrating to care as much as I, and to spend what I have spent to improve our block, only to have a new dumpsite started. I do not get it and obviously others do not get it either.
