Cherokee County Teachers Federal Credit Union chartered to serve school employees
In March, 1955, the Cherokee County Teachers Federal Credit Union was chartered to serve the public school employees, credit union employees and members of their families.

Former Rusk ISD Superintendent Gerald Chapman is credited with the vision for creating the Cherokee County Federal Teachers Credit Union in Rusk. The institution has grown in the last half century. Membership today stands at 2,295 with assets of almost $12 million.
In 2005 the CCTFCU marked a milestone with the grand opening of their new facility, located on U.S. Highway 69 north of Rusk.

The new building expanded the original structure, and is the third home for the credit union.

Its leading founder was the late Gerald B. Chapman, educator, and superintendent of Rusk Independent School District. A strong supporter to Mr. Chapman was the late County Superintendent Robert Banks.

Other original subscribers included RISD faculty members Curtis McLeod, J.M. Boone, Bill March, Lois Henry, Gladys Dotson, Dorris McLeod, Adon Duncan and Bill McCluney.

Kellie Wilcox is the secretary of the board at CCFTCU. Board members include: Tony Murray, President; Bill Cromer, Sid Danner, Lindy Finley, Ricky Hassell, Dr. Jim Largent, John Mark Lester and Harold Parker
The charter of the credit union was amended in 1978 to allow memberships from employees, elected and appointed officials of Cherokee County.

Its membership now includes employees and directors of the Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association, Rusk ISD students, anyone who lives, works or worships in Cherokee County and Bullard ISD employees and students.
