NATIONAL CREDIT UNION WEEK A unique celebration is planned by two pillars in the Rusk business community. They are Southern Cherokee Federal Credit Union, established in March, 1960, and Cherokee County Teachers Federal Credit Union, established in 1955. The week long observance spans Oct. 15-19. The two financial service entities are joining to celebrate International Credit Union Day Oct. 18. Since 1948, ICU Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October, a day it sets aside to reflect on the credit union movement's history and to promote its achievements. It honors those who have dedicated their lives to the cause and is an opportunity to raise public awareness to the role which it has played and continues to play in the lives of those they serve - their members. This year's theme, "Together We're Better," recognizes the progress made around the world as credit unions continue to work together and forge new partnerships. Regardless of the country in which members live, credit union members are discovering their commonalities and with the exchange of new ideas, credit unions reach more members and offer better services for everyone. The two Credit Unions of Rusk will offer a variety of events next week to raise public awareness about the great work that credit unions are doing and give members an opportunity to get more involved. Open house with refreshments, contests and door prizes are on the list of events planned at each facility. |
