Commissioners seek TDCJ help County Judge Chris Davis will seek assistance from Texas Department of Criminal Justice work crews in renovation work at a county building in Jacksonville. The building formerly was owned by the county and the City of Jacksonville. Jacksonville donated its portion of the building to the county. The county tax assessor collector's office, justice of the peace and constable are housed in the building, which also housed the Jacksonville Police Department and jail. After TDCJ inmates do demolition work, a construction manager-at-risk will be employed. County-wide clean up is planned for Saturday at the solid waste collection site at the airport. County residents can take large items to the dumpster between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Commissioners nominated Tammy Trawick and John Mark Lester as candidates for the Cherokee County Appraisal District board of directors. Bids will be sought for the purchase of four new police cars for the sheriff 's department. Also the county will advertise for bids for vehicles for one or more precincts. An interlocal agreement was approved between the county and the City of Alto. The county will assist the City of Alto with street repairs and patching. Alto will purchase the materials and the county will assist with the work. Commissioners approved a resolution designating engineering and administration service providers for the Texas Community Development Block Grant STEP Fund award. The engineering firm will be Everett Griffith & Associates and GrantWorks is the administrator for the project for Lake Stryker Water Corporation. Signers for the fund are Judge Davis; County Auditor L.H. Crockett and County Treasurer Patsy Lassister. Commissioners approved a physician sub-contract for a breast cancer detection program at the county health department. The county will participate in the 2008 Indigent Defense Grant program. Flu shots will be purchased from the health department for all county employees. Commissioners rejected a bid from William Adcock of Jacksonville for $101 to purchase a county owned Poulan Pro Mower. The county will sell a modified sheep foot roller to Kent Shuttlesworth of Jacksonville for $200, a generator to Jim Deese of Jacksonville for $200 and a portable building to William Adcock of Jacksonville for $2,001. Bids were approved for road materials from Armor Materials of Tyler and Vulcan Materials Co. of Stanford and for fuel from Hubert Glass Oil Co. of Jacksonville and H&W Petroleum Co. Inc. of Lufkin. Vote was Judge Davis and commissioners Mary Gregg and Byron Underwood for, Kevin Pierce against and Moody Glass III abstaining. |
