JOHN W. (J.W.) CARTER Funeral for John W. (J.W.) Carter, 83, of Rusk, was at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rusk First Baptist Church with the Rev. K.B. Clater officiating. Burial was in Holly Spring- Delmar Cemetery, Rusk. Mr. Carter died Sept. 23. He was born Feb. 28, 1924. Mr. Carter graduated from Bradford High School and received his bachelor's degree from Bishop College of Marshall. He retired from Rusk High School and Rusk State Hospital. He was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church and Hicks Masonic Lodge, where he served as secretary for 50 years. He was a city councilman and member of Rusk City Park Board, Rusk Zoning Board, Rusk Housing Board. He served on the board of Cherokee Action and Cherokee County and Summer Program. Survivors include a son, Randy Carter of DeSoto; two daughters, Sandra Carter and Ladora Carter, both of Rusk; three brothers, James Carter of Mineola, George Carter of Merced, Calif., and Marvin Carter of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Geneva Taylor of Dallas, Corine Waggoner of Las Vegas, Nev. and Myrtle Garmon of Henderson; 12 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. Pallbearers were Charlie Waggoner Jr., Bruce Bradley, Bobby Johnson, Samuel O'Neal, Calvin Henderson and Reginald Carter. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Elm Grove Baptist Church, Mount Olive Baptist Church, West Union Faith Ministries, and Deacon Carl Foreman. Arrangements were under the direction of Williams Funeral Home. |
