Governor will address ET economic summit AUSTIN - Several key statewide officials will speak at the upcoming East Texas Economic Development Summit in Lufkin Nov.15. "The enthusiastic response from these top-level officials shows their commitment to helping East Texas prosper," said State Sen. Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville). "Their experience and insight will help guarantee the summit's success." Confirmed speakers include: • Gov. Rick Perry • Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst • Comptroller Susan Combs • Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples Speakers' remarks will center around the theme of the summit, "Equipping Rural Communities for the Future." "Everyone knows that rural communities have different strengths and face different challenges than the urban areas of our state," said Sen. Nichols. "The summit will focus on the area's unique opportunities and the role East Texas plays in Texas economy." Sen. Nichols is co-host of the event with Texas Forest Country Partnership (TFCP) and Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples, who first hosted the summit when he was the senator from District 3. "The previous summits were so successful, I knew it was a tradition that needed to be maintained," said Sen. Nichols. Sponsorships are still available.
